Originally hailing from the East Bay Area, Sofie Mae left home as a teenager to travel across the country by way of thumb or freight train. All along the way she played music wherever her feet carried her. Soon, music carried her to the city of New Orleans. This incredible city inspired her to dedicate her life to her musicianship and she quicky gained a repertoire of jazz standards; singing while accompanying herself on guitar. She continued traveling around the country making a living as a street musician, predominately residing in New Orleans, the Pacific North West and New England, where she studied briefly at Berklee College of Music.
She recently returned to the East Bay Area and started the band, Prophet Martian with fellow local musicians. This band blends elements of jazz, neo soul, funk, and blues with synth influence. Over the last year, this band quickly gained traction in the Bay Area playing at the Great American Music Hall, Bottom of the Hill, Noise Pop's Summer of Music opening for Thundercat, the Sh'Bang Festival in Bellingham, WA, and the Same Same But Different Festival in San Diego to name a few. She is currently embarking on a new self titled indie project that is taking influences from 80s synth sounds and dream pop. With a sweet sultry voice to melt your heart, she'll have you captivated by the magical music making experience. She is very excited for the new project in the works, so stay tuned for its release.
